Annual Events

Scouting For Food

Scouting for food is one of the first service projects a Pack 3 Scout encounters each year. Over these two weekends in November, Scouts drop food donation bags off at homes throughout Point Pleasant, with donation pickups the following week.

The scouts take part in delivering these donations to the St. Gregory Food Pantry in Point Pleasant Beach, where each year, through the generous donations of our local community, the food pantry receives hundreds of bags of much needed supplies to help and support thos in need.

Pinewood Derby

The pinewood derby is one of the events most associated with being a Cub Scout. Each year, Scouts put their creativity to the test in designing, shaping, building, and putting the finishing touches on their derby car out of a simple block of wood. In the process of their design, Scouts need to ensure that it meets certain size and weight requirements, while also making it the coolest car around.

Camporee

Camporee is a fun exposure for Cub Scouts to the outdoor elements of camping and nature preservation, reinforcing the idea of "Leave No Trace". Over the course of a Camporee weekend, normally held in the spring and fall at the Joseph A. Citta Scout Reservation, Cub Scouts from multiple Packs in the Jersey Shore-Northern Lights District interact with each other in single day activities or overnight camping to learn about wilderness survival, and grow closer with their pack and nature. Additionally, members of our Pack camp alongside members of the Point Pleasant Boy Scout Troop 3 to learn from the older kids about being a Scout.

Honoring Veterans/
Memorial Day activities

Each year, our Scouts, along with Scouts from across the state, honor veterans by taking part in a host of Memorial Day activities, including laying flags at the Brigadier General William C. Doyle Veterans Cemetery. This solemn activity helps to make Scouts think about service and sacrifice.

Additionally, Scouts will also participate in the annual Point Pleasant Memorial Day Parade.

Pack Advancements

Each year, the scouting year ends with our pack advancements ceremony, where members of a Den who have completed all required adventures officially advance to their next rank in Cub Scouts. For our Scouts that have completed the adventures in Arrow of Light, this advancement is part of a crossing over ceremony from Pack 3 into the Boy Scout Troop 3, where these individuals can continue on their scouting journey.

This event is usually marked by a campfire cookout, with skits practiced and performed by the scouts, and fun teambuilding activities and games. It is a great culmination to all the work done by the scouts, families, den leaders, and pack leadership throughout the year.

Additional Annual Activities and Adventures

Whether it is Veggie Car races, STEM nights, service and outreach to local organizations like the Elks, or local schools, or adventures to explore and learn about our local firehouse, EMS, or more, a year in Scouting is filled with fun and educational offerings for all Scouts.
